<p class="articletext" align="justify">Some of us need to lose more than others, but I think most of you would agree we all could stand to lose a few pounds.<span id="more-1514"></span>You may also realize the older we get the harder it is to <a href="http://www.fatbellygirl.com/tag/lose-weight/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with lose weight">lose weight</a>, One reason for that could be we are not as active as we use to be, I am sure there are other reasons, but being less active in my opinion would have a big role in gaining weight as we grow older. </p>
<p> Did you know 68% of Americans are overweight? Its true and its not getting any better. As you might have guessed I am one of those in that 68%, but I am also one of those trying to get out of the 68%. I have had some success, but the problem is this is not something you do in one week or even one month. The biggest problem I have is the fast food, as a matter of fact I had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit from a fast food restaurant this morning, saying to myself, well I will cut back on my next meal or even skip the next meal. Will I be able to skip the next meal, don&#8217;t know, haven&#8217;t got there yet. I don&#8217;t want you to think I am not trying, because I am, but you work so hard at losing the weight, you just feel like you need to reward yourself every now and then. The problem seems to be you start rewarding yourself more now than of the then. Have you ever done that?   </p>
<p> I think we all understand being overweight is detrimental to our health, being overweight is linked to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stoke, heart disease and many other health problems. Our health is a good reason to want to <a href="http://www.fatbellygirl.com/tag/lose-weight/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with lose weight">lose weight</a>, but there is another reason, we all want to look our best and in my case that extra weight is not helping. That&#8217;s right the extra weight hanging over my belt is not helping my looks one bit, but guess what, I have lost 8 pounds, but my stomach is still there. I have lost weight in my face and fingers and maybe a few other places, but the stomach is still there. Have you been there yet? That is why it takes longer to lose the weight than we anticipate, the part we are want to lose is the last to go. </p>
<p> I&#8217;m going to tell you what I did to lose the 8 pounds, but just because it worked for me doesn&#8217;t mean it will work for you. The first thing I did was cut out the fast food, except for maybe once a week. I started drinking nothing but water, I no longer do that, now that I found a soft drink that I like with no calories (coca cola zero). I would eat the same meals I always did, but I did cut out mashed potatoes and ate not bread at meal time. My wife found some butter with no calories and we used that (I can&#8217;t believe its not butter) I also used splenda instead of sugar when I had cereal. That is how I lost the 8 pounds in a month. There may be people reading this that may have different problems than I do so it is always best to ask your doctor if you should start any kind of weight loss program. </p>
<p> I spend a lot of time on the Internet and as I was surfing I ran into a diet that I found interesting. They use something called the shifting calories theory. They also talk about losing 9 pounds in 11 days, much better than my 8 pounds in 30 days. <p class="articletext" align="justify">The past 2 years have been very tough with a lot of emotional stress which I will gladly give full credit in my journey to a size 43 1/2? waist, but I know I have to take the blame on that.<span id="more-1375"></span>One of the first things I learned from my eye doctor actually got me thinking. It turns out that with every 10 pounds you gain, your vision will steadily get worse. It won&#8217;t improve when you lose it though. </p>
<p> I know many people will say, &#8220;Well, it&#8217;s already messed up, so what&#8217;s the point of losing weight?&#8221; To answer that, it just keeps getting worse with each 10 pounds. That news affected me way more than the usual people proclaiming that&#8217;s it unhealthy, heart disease, diabetes, and all that good stuff. </p>
<p> So my year 2008 was spent going from size 33/34?- 42/43? and 200-229 pounds. I was so depressed and kept fooling myself saying that I was happy this way and finding everyone to blame except myself. Now I know that many people do have medical conditions, but there&#8217;s just as many that say they must have a &#8216;condition&#8217; rather than deal with the reality. If you&#8217;re happy at your size, that&#8217;s great (that&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about), but if you&#8217;re not, the first step is always the hardest. </p>
<p> I know that the number New Year&#8217;s resolution is always &#8216;losing weight&#8217;, so I started making my changes at the beginning of December 2008. If I could <a href="http://www.fatbellygirl.com/tag/lose-weight/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with lose weight">lose weight</a> during the holiday season, I could make it the rest of the year. </p>
<p> My biggest thing was I have never gone for the <a href="http://www.fatbellygirl.com/tag/lose-weight/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with lose weight">lose weight</a> fast ploy. We&#8217;ve all watched Oprah go that route and now she&#8217;s back where she started. Even filmmaker Kevin Smith tried last year and nothing changed. In the past I&#8217;ve always learned that by making small changes in your lifestyle was the only way to make long lasting changes. </p>
<p> My new best friend is a little device called a &#8216;pedometer&#8217;. This thing has been the best thing I could have every found! Best of all, it only costs a couple of dollars and you can get them anywhere, even Wal-Mart. This little gadget measures every stride you take. Going from a pretty sedentary lifestyle could only be a plus for me! </p>
<p> You wouldn&#8217;t think that it could make a difference but when you see how many steps you take in your everyday life and then start doing things to push the counter up really helps. For anyone whowants to try the pedometer, the initial goal is to work your way up to 10,000 steps a day. That&#8217;s the average for an active lifestyle. It&#8217;s not near as daunting as it sounds either. My first day I logged just 3,000 and then the 2nd day went up to 7,000 now I&#8217;m averaging about 20,000 daily. Every 2,000 is roughly equivalent to 1 mile. I find myself getting up to do more things now to make sure the numbers keep increasing each day. Even if you live in a cold climate or aren&#8217;t comfortable going to the gym, this is for you. It&#8217;s as easy as you want too! </p>

<p> The first thing that most people think of is that their extra abdominal fat is simply ugly, is covering up their abdominals from showing, and makes them self conscious about their body. </p>
<p> However, what most people do not realize is that excess belly fat in particular, is not only unsightly, but is also dangerous and a serious risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your entire body, it is also more dangerous in particular to have excess belly fat. </p>
<p> There are 2 varieties of fat that you have in your abdominal region. The first type that covers up your abdominals from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the ab muscles. </p>
<p> The 2nd type of fat that you have in your abdominal region is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Visceral fat also plays a role in giving some men that &#8220;beer belly&#8221; appearance where their belly protrudes excessively but at the same time, also feels kind of hard if you push on it.  </p>
<p> Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal region are serious health risk factors, but science has shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Both types of body fat greatly increase the risk your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases. </p>
<p> Part of the reason visceral fat is particularly dangerous is that it apparently releases more inflammatory molecules into your system on a daily basis. </p>
<p> If you care about the quality of your life and your loved ones (as well as your appearance), reducing your belly fat should be one of your TOP priorities regarding your fitness! There is just no way around it. Besides, a side effect of finally getting rid of all of that excessive ugly belly fat is that your stomach will flatten out, and if you lose enough belly fat, you will finally be able to uncover those elusive sexy six pack abs that everyone wants. </p>
<p> So what gets rid of extra belly fat?  Is there actually a REAL solution beyond all of the hype and gimmicks that you see in all of the infomercial ads and on commercials for &#8220;miracle&#8221; fat loss products? </p>
<p> The first thing you must understand is that there is absolutely NO quick fix solution. There are no pills of any sort that will help you get rid of your belly fat faster. Also, none of the gimmicky ab rollers, rockers, or belts will help get rid of stomach fat either. You can not spot reduce your belly fat by using any of these worthless gadgets. It simply does not work that way. </p>
